Amazon, carry the Chromecast please
EDIT: Amazon began carrying the Chromecast in the online store in April 2019. They soon after enabled Chromecast support for their video and music streaming services.
Amazon is known for carrying everything, like a modern Portobello Road.

One thing you can't find on Amazon anymore is the Chromecast device from Google. This hockey puck sized device connects to your television and allows you to stream content from a phone (Android or Apple), Chromebook, or a traditional computer (provided it has the Chrome browser installed). Videos, photos, music, podcasts, anything streamable online or even stored on your phone is available on the Chromecast as long as the content provider has enabled streaming to the Chromecast.
Enabling that support is really easy. You add a few lines of code and a software library to your app, make sure the content streams from the server in a supported format (most common ones are) and you are done.
Amazon has their own streaming service with their own streaming device called the Fire TV. Similar to the Chromecast it supports many different streaming services and many different formats.
I can understand a company not wanting to be a distribution channel for a competing product, and I fully support Amazon's decision to remove the Chromecast. What I don't support is their reasoning.
Amazon said that they won't carry Google's device because it does not support Amazon content. While it is true you can't stream movies or music from Amazon on a Chromecast, that us not Google's fault. Amazon is in full control of this feature and would be welcome on the platform. While it does require registering their app with Google, the registration is free and there are few if any restrictions on its use.
Amazon does not seem to be telling the full story when it comes to the Chromecast. I for one use the Chromecast everyday and choose which services I use based on who supports the Chromecast. Trust me, my options are not limited. Amazon and Apple seem to be the largest hold outs so far.
I fully understand Amazon not supporting Apple's platform. Apple has chosen to charge a 30% premium on most (if not all) content purchased through the iOS platform. For Amazon to charge customers for books in the Kindle app, for example, 30% of the purchase would go to Apple. Amazon refuses to allow that, opting for a worse user experience on iOS devices by forcing users to purchase books on another platform then sync them to the Apple device. Apple TV works similarly from what I understand, and Amazon has taken the same stance for their movies as they did with their books.
