Special Characters in MS Office
Many times in math or foreign languages you have to add a mark over characters to indicates certain things. In Spanish you put an accent mark over the vowel that should be stressed in words that don't follow the typical stressing rules. In math if you put a bar over a variable (x̅) to indicate average. Et cetera, et cetera.
In Microsoft Office you can add these character quite easily. Go to the Insert menu and select Symbol > More Symbols. In the new window there is a drop down menu called Subset. Choose Combining Diacritic Marks. This will move the character map down to a set of characters that will add these symbols to the previous character. Now type the character you want to mark, select the mark you want, and press Insert. Been doing this the hard way for a long time.
