DirectX install problems

So I was trying to install DirectX this morning when it kept failing on me. I decided to reboot into safe mode and try it again. I had been writing an Android app this morning so had the emulator up and didn't think about it. I saved my work and closed the Android Studio, then decided to try one more time to install. Voila! It worked! Apparently the emulator was using DirectX and needed to be closed. I should have thought of that. Lesson learned, when the installer says "Please close all programs" sometimes they mean it.
