Google drops Exchange Active Sync

So at the end of January Google will begin phasing out support for Exchange access to Google Calendar, Contacts, and Gmail. The main reason they supported it was to allow iPhone to access Google services. For some reason when you set up a Google account on an iPhone it doesn't include the contacts. Microsoft recently put out a statement saying they couldn't believe Google was dropping support for EAS. I think Google did it not to spite Microsoft but to avoid paying the license fee using the protocol. Microsoft makes good stuff but it is not cheap. CardDAV, CalDAV, and IMAP are replacing EAS and will provide all the features EAS provided and then some. From what I have read CardDAV supports larger pictures for contacts and more phone numbers and email addresses per contact than EAS. So I say good on you Google for supporting the open standards and Microsoft, grow up. Stop whining about Google. (Check out what Microsoft has been saying in press releases and on Twitter.) You sound childish.
